Group Project

One of the ideas that we came up for our group was to use natural objects to make a three dimensional shape. We thought about starting from a tree and using it as our basic form to build the shape around it. *We are no longer doing the group project*

Emotive Line

The small strips of light seen through the trees evoke a sense of hope, in comparison with the bleakness of the trees. The use of color and tone in the painting would be eerie were it not for the emotive lines. It reminds me of what I picture in many Washington Irving short stories.

Kimono Design

This is a traditional Japanese Kimono that dates back to the early nineteenth century. The kimono is wrapped in gold threads and features a shochikubai design. This design encompasses a combination of plum, pine and bamboo.

Money as Art

I admire how artist Justine Smith uses her works to make an anti-war statement. She uses images of grenades and war items furnished from currency, that are used to fund war efforts. On the other hand, she also shows how money can fund peace initiatives with her constrasting theme of the second work. This work is subtle art that makes a powerful statement.

Coldplay-Speed of Sound

In this music video, vivid colors are used to represent sound itself. It reminds me very much of synesthesia, and I adore the song. It's a win-win!

Synesthesia

There are over 60 types of synesthesia that have been reported. This image represents those who associate color with different types of smells.

Money Design

This is French Polynesian currency, specifically the French Pacific Franc-sometimes known as CPF or XPF. It maintains its stability by being linked to the Euro. I love how this currency almost takes on its own art form. I almost wish that U.S. currency were more colorful. Maybe with time!

This was an image made with a tight grid using photoshop. I like how precise it is that it resembles a drawing.

Chuck Close

Emma

Chuck Close is one of the world's leading modern artists. He creates a painiting based on a picture, recreating the image through different techniques. I like this picture, because it reminds me of the picture I attempted to complete with our gestalt project-close compiles different shapes into a grid, while none of them are touching. His techniques and colors used in this work captures the innocence and playfulness of a child.

Repetition of Fom

This is a 2011 advertisement for Miu Miu, a fashion designer. The reflecion of the mirrors gives the photo a repetition of form.

Andy Goldsworthy

Artist Andy Goldsworthy is an artist who incorporates different forms of nature into his work. He uses materials such as: sticks, flowers, mud and thorns (essentially biodegradable materials) to compose a piece that is meant to last for a short period of time. In this piece, I admire how Goldsworthy uses flowers and foliage to create an interpretation of a dark hole. I love how he attempts to bring out the beauty in nature, and show the viewer that they too can realize that nature was the first artist.
